What is a Health Coach?

First, we must define the two words alone. Health is defined as “one’s mental or physical condition” or “being free from illness or injury.” Coach is defined in multiple ways, but the applicable definition for this coaching is “an instructor or to prompt with instructions.”

So what is a Health Coach (HC)? A HC is someone certified to help along your life’s health journey. A HC educates, empowers, supports, and motivates. She/He gives you the tools to implement changes for client-focused health goals.

A HC does NOT replace your health care provider nor does she/he diagnose or treat serious illnesses or injuries. A HC does not prescribe medications or supplements.

A HC is knowledgeable about methods to reduce stress/stress management, a variety of diets, weight loss, how to help with sleep, help with food cravings, get more energy, digestion/gut health, and understand the RIPPLE EFFECT making changes to your diet and lifestyle can provide.

A HC is the biggest supporter and fan, giving encouragement along the way and holding you accountable for your actions. Additionally, it definitely makes it easier to say “no” to that doughnut and “yes” to that walk when you have to “report in,” but also because the changes you implement will be well worth it to reach your goal.

Being healthy is about finding balance; it isn’t all Kale and Brussel Sprouts. Sometimes it's okay to have that piece of cake, but sometimes you can choose the vegetable instead. A HC assists you in seeing what works best for you. It’s about getting yourself to that place of harmony, and a HC can help you find that harmony.
